چکیده
The main objective of this study is to develop a fast and validated model predict the motions’ responses spar-buoy wave energy converter based on oscillating water column principle. Experiments former investigations highlighted strong effect heave motion performance OWC whereas oscillations slightly affect motions. Therefore, single degree freedom was adopted simulate structure’s surge, heave, pitch separately. prediction straightforward task results were experimentally compared previous studies. Linear quadratic damping coefficients introduced for better agreement between measured predicted responses. In contrast, surge response more complicated as it requires consideration mooring system installation properties, while configuration not investigated since reduced-scale floating freely (un-moored). obtained from proposed using finite element method. Two different approaches used solve equation in direction considering multi-catenary system. Static approach where constant mooring-lines stiffness quasi-static reaction curves developed estimate instant resultant line tension at offsets. Load excursion full-scale device by finally validated.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Spar Buoy-magnet/spring Oscillators Used as Wave Energy Absorbers
We study free-floating point absorption wave generators, consisting of an assemblage of one or a few (mostly heaving) spar buoys, housing at least one short-stroke linear generator (SSLG), made of a magnet, suspended to a spring, and oscillating within a coil. This system is aimed at producing low and renewable wave power (up to kW) for marine coastal surveillance systems. Both scale model expe...
متن کاملWave energy converter control by wave prediction and dynamic programming
We demonstrate that deterministic sea wave prediction (DSWP) combined with constrained optimal control can dramatically improve the efficiency of sea wave energy converters (WECs), while maintaining their safe operation. We focus on a point absorber WEC employing a hydraulic/electric power take-off system. Maximizing energy take-off while minimizing the risk of damage is formulated as an optima...
متن کاملCharacterizing Dangerous Waves for Ocean Wave Energy Converter Survivability
Ocean Wave Energy Converters (OWECs) operating on the water surface are subject to storms and other extreme events. In particular, high and steep waves, especially breaking waves, are likely the most dangerous to OWECs. A method for quantifying the breaking severity of waves is presented and applied to wave data from Coastal Data Information Program station 139. The data are wave height and len...
متن کاملOcean Wave Parameters Retrieval from TerraSAR-X Images Validated against Buoy Measurements and Model Results
An ocean surface wave retrieval algorithm, Parameterized First-guess Spectrum Method (PFSM), which was initially developed for C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), is modified to extract wave parameters from X-band TerraSAR-X (TS-X) images. Wave parameters, including significant wave height (SWH) and mean wave period (MWP) were extracted from nine TS-X HH-polarization images and were compared...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of IRWEC1, a Novel Offshore Wave Energy Converter
This paper describes the innovative offshore point-absorber wave energy converter (WEC), IRWEC1, under development by the Hydrodynamics, Acoustics and Marine propulsion Group at Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. Totally enclosed in an outer shell, with no external moving parts, IRWEC1 is completely sealed which make it a robust and trustable system. Important motion for this WEC is the...
